JON GREENWOOD
DIRECTOR / LEAD INSTRUCTOR
Few coaches in Atlantic Canada bring the depth of experience and proven success that Jon Greenwood does.
Recently named the Head Coach of the Dalhousie University Tigers men’s hockey program, Jon has built an outstanding coaching résumé at every level of the game. Before joining Dalhousie, he guided the Truro Bearcats to a Maritime Hockey League championship in 2026.
Jon also spent seven seasons behind the bench as an assistant coach with the Halifax Mooseheads, helping lead the organization to a QMJHL Championship Final and a Memorial Cup Final appearance in 2019. Throughout his career, he has also coached numerous Hockey Nova Scotia high-performance teams.
Long before they became household names, Jon played an important role in developing some of Nova Scotia’s brightest young stars. He coached NHL superstar Nathan MacKinnon during his peewee years in Cole Harbour
Known for his ability to connect with players, teach the finer details of the game, and build winning cultures, Jon brings a wealth of knowledge that benefits athletes of every age and skill level. Whether developing young players or coaching at the highest levels of junior and university hockey, his passion for teaching and commitment to player development remain at the heart of everything he does.
ERIN KING
HOCKEY INSTRUCTOR
Coach Erin King is back for another year at Cole Harbour Hockey School! He is well known in the Nova Scotia hockey community as a coach and skills instructor.
Formerly an assistant coach with both the Moncton Wildcats of the QMJHL and the StFX X-Men of U Sports, Erin is now the Athletic Director at East Coast Varsity in Dartmouth, NS.
Erin is a Certified Hockey Canada High Performance 1 Coach and has a passion for developing hockey skills in players of all ages.
Off the ice Erin enjoys spending time with his family and you can find him on the diamond coaching baseball or jamming on his guitar!
LEA MACLEOD
HOCKEY INSTRUCTOR
Lea MacLeod is a professional hockey player for SC Bern where she captured a Swiss Women's Hockey League Championship.
She began skating at age 2 and played boys’ hockey through bantam before joining prep school programs and eventually excelling at St. Francis Xavier University (StFX) in U SPORTS, where she was a key contributor, amassing 32 points (12G, 20A) in the 2022‑23 AUS season and earning First Team All-Star honors.
Internationally, MacLeod represented Team Atlantic at U18 nationals, demonstrating early leadership and a competitive spirit. After graduating, she launched her professional journey in Europe, first signing with Germany’s ERC Ingolstadt and tallying an impressive 34 points (14 goals, 20 assists) in just 21 games. Lea moved to SC Bern in the Swiss Women’s Hockey League for the 2024‑25 season finishing with 26 points in 28 games, solidifying her reputation as a top-tier import player.
Off the ice, she’s recognized for her analytical approach, leveraging video review to refine her game, and her commitment to mentorship, making her an inspiring role model for young athletes. Lea brings to a hockey camp a rare mix of high-level college and pro experience, international exposure, competitive drive, and leadership, ensuring our Cole Harbour campers can only improve in her presence.
JENN MARANDO
HOCKEY INSTRUCTOR
Jenn Marando is one of Nova Scotia’s most respected and accomplished hockey coaches, known for her passion for player development, leadership, and building positive team cultures.
Jenn was recently named Head Coach of Hockey Nova Scotia’s Girls U14 High Performance Team, a prestigious opportunity that recognizes her commitment to developing some of the province’s top young athletes. This appointment comes after leading the Metro East Inferno U15 AA program to a Provincial Championship and earning the 2025 Jacques Comeau Coach of the Year Award, presented annually to Nova Scotia’s top representative team coach.
Jenn believes that success is built through hard work, accountability, and creating an environment where every player feels valued. Whether she’s leading high-performance athletes or mentoring the next generation, her enthusiasm for the game and ability to connect with players make her an outstanding role model.
Jenn is excited to share her knowledge and experience with the athletes at Cole Harbour Hockey School, helping players develop their skills, confidence, and love for the game while creating a fun and challenging learning environment.
TYLER HINAM
HOCKEY INSTRUCTOR
Tyler Hinam recently completed three outstanding seasons with the Manchester Storm of the UK’s Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL) and has signed with the Gothiques d’Amiens of France’s Ligue Magnus for the upcoming season.
A proud Cole Harbour native, Hinam enjoyed an exceptional junior career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Cape Breton Eagles, capturing both the President Cup and the 2019 Memorial Cup.
One of the defining moments of his career came at the 2019 Memorial Cup in Halifax. With Rouyn-Noranda facing elimination after dropping its opening game, Hinam scored two goals, including the dramatic game-winning goal in a 6–3 victory over the Prince Albert Raiders. He broke a 3–3 tie with just 4:32 remaining in the third period, keeping the Huskies alive and setting the stage for their eventual Memorial Cup championship.
In the championship game against the hometown Halifax Mooseheads, Hinam once again delivered in a crucial moment. With the game tied in the second period, he made a brilliant heads-up play by kicking the puck to Joël Teasdale for the game-tying goal, a momentum-shifting play that helped propel the Huskies to a 4–2 Memorial Cup victory. Hinam finished the tournament tied for the scoring lead with 8 points in 5 games, proving he was one of the tournament’s premier performers.
Known for his relentless work ethic, leadership, and competitive drive, Hinam’s journey—from countless hours on backyard rinks to overcoming adversity and becoming a Memorial Cup champion and professional player in Europe—is an inspiring example for young athletes. His experience, passion for the game, and championship mindset make him an incredible addition to our 2026 Cole Harbour Hockey School.
ROY DEMPSEY
STRENGTH & CONDITIONING COACH
Roy Dempsey returns as our CHHS 2026 Strength and Conditioning Coach!
Coach Roy brings over two decades of experience in strength and conditioning, off-ice hockey training, and athletic development. A dedicated educator and leader, Roy is currently a teacher and Athletic Director at Woodlawn High School, where he’s spent the past 14 years helping student-athletes thrive on and off the field.
Since 2004, Roy has worked with athletes of all levels through Total Hockey Training, the Halifax Mooseheads, and Fusion Hockey, specializing in off-ice workouts, dryland training, and hockey-specific conditioning. His coaching journey began in 2005 and spans a variety of levels, always focusing on helping players grow stronger, faster, and more confident in their game.
Coach Roy was part of the Strength and Conditioning staff while Nathan MacKinnon and the Halifax Mooseheads won the President’s Cup followed by the Memorial Cup in 2013!
Outside the rink and gym, Roy is a proud family man who loves spending time with his wife Jill and their two sons, Heath and Huck. He enjoys all sports, going for runs, country music, reading, and cheering on the Toronto Maple Leafs
TODD BENGERT
GOALTENDER DEVELOPMENT
Todd is the Owner of Upper Echelon Goaltending (20 years) and has served as the Goaltending Coach for the Dalhousie Tigers Women’s Hockey Team for the last three years, as well as Goaltender Development Consultant for Cole Harbour Bel Ayr Minor Hockey (since 2023). He has coached goaltenders from U7 to U Sports, with a focus on technical precision, mental resilience, and long-term growth.
We are excited to have Coach Todd join us for his first year at Cole Harbour Hockey School!
JONAH LEROUX
HOCKEY INSTRUCTOR
In 2023 the Halifax Mooseheads hired power skating coach Jonah as an additional asset for the continued development of the players within the organization.
Leroux brings a wealth of hockey knowledge to our camp, stemming from a lengthy playing career in the OHL that saw him appear in more than 300 games with the Oshawa Generals, Brampton Battalion, Ottawa 67’s and Sudbury Wolves. He later played U Sports for three seasons with the Dalhousie Tigers.
Jonah is extremely knowledgeable, has excellent communication skills, and is an excellent demonstrator of skating and hockey skills. His ability to keep kids engaged and enthusiasm for developing young hockey players is second to none and we are very excited to have Jonah on our team.
CONNOR TRENHOLM
HOCKEY INSTRUCTOR
We’re thrilled to have Connor Trenholm leading our Pro Hockey Life Off-Ice Training Centre this summer!
A proud Cole Harbour native, Connor has built an impressive hockey résumé. After playing five seasons in the QMJHL with the Cape Breton Eagles, Saint John Sea Dogs, and Moncton Wildcats, he won a 2022 Memorial Cup Championship with the Saint John Sea Dogs. He now suits up for the Saint Mary’s University Huskies, where he helped lead the team to the 2026 U SPORTS National Championship Final, finishing the season as national silver medalists.
One thing anyone who has watched Connor play will tell you is this… he can absolutely rip the puck. His shot is one of the biggest weapons in his game, and it’s something he’s excited to pass along to the next generation of players. Whether it’s shooting mechanics, generating more power, improving accuracy, or learning how to score in game situations, Connor loves helping young athletes develop the skills and confidence to become more dangerous offensive players.
Connor is passionate about giving back to the hockey community that helped shape his career. He’s excited to share his knowledge, mentor young players, and help every athlete build confidence, improve their game, and develop the skills they’ll carry with them for years to come
CHRIS LARADE
HOCKEY INSTRUCTOR
Chris Larade recently completed his 14th season as head coach of the Saint Mary’s University Women’s Hockey team, compiling a 181-98-17 record over the last eight seasons. He led the Huskies to AUS championships in 2016, 2017, and 2018, including a national bronze medal in 2016—the program’s first. His teams have consistently been nationally ranked, reaching as high as #1 in 2019-2020 and 2021-2022.
A three-time AUS and two-time U SPORTS Coach of the Year, Larade is the first to win the national honour in back-to-back seasons (2016, 2017). He has also coached at multiple levels in Hockey Nova Scotia’s High Performance Program, including leading Team Atlantic at the 2017 U18 Nationals and serving as assistant coach at the 2011 Canada Winter Games.
His previous roles include three seasons with Metro Boston Pizza U18AAA (3 provincial titles, 2 Atlantic silver medals), and assistant coach with the StFX X-Women (1 AUS title, 2 national appearances).
Larade holds High Performance 1 and Level 3 certifications and is a graduate of Human Kinetics and Education at StFX. He lives in Halifax with his wife Sarah and their children, Paige and Blake.
NAHSHON THOMAS
HOCKEY INSTRUCTOR
Nahshon Thomas brings passion, energy, and a love for the game every time he steps on the ice. A versatile forward, Nahshon has competed at several levels of hockey throughout his career, representing Nunavut at the 2019 Canada Winter Games before continuing his development in Nova Scotia.
Originally from Iqaluit and raised in the Halifax area, Nahshon has built his game through hard work and determination. He played at the U18 Major level before continuing his hockey career with the Eastern Shore Thunder in the Nova Scotia Regional Junior Hockey League, where he became known as a dependable offensive contributor and respected teammate.
Over the past year, Nahshon has focused on developing the next generation of players while working at The Mount Academy in Prince Edward Island. During his time there, he served as a coach with the academy’s U17 and U18 programs, helping athletes sharpen their skills, build confidence, and prepare for the next level of competition. His experience in a high-performance hockey environment has further strengthened his ability to teach the game and connect with young players.
Nahshon is a fan favorite of Cole Harbour Hockey School, where he helps create memories to last a lifetime for our campers
GROUP LEADERS
We find some of the best young leaders in our community to join our camp each summer. Many of our group leaders return each year, and some of them have been past campers themselves. These group leaders are responsible for our many groups and ensure a safe and fun learning environment throughout the whole day. These group leaders share a common background in hockey and have played various levels of hockey including the QMJHL, CIS, and NCAA Division I.
